菊花鏈顯示器如何徹底改變多顯示器設置

Adding a second or third display often meant investing in docking stations, adapters, or upgrading to a graphics card with more outputs. But a growing number of modern displays are embracing a technology that promises to eliminate the clutter altogether — daisy chaining. At its core, daisy chaining — also known as Display-Port MST (Multi-Stream Transport) or loop-through-allows users to connect multiple monitors in a series using a single cable from the computer. The first monitor connects to the PC, the second connects to the first, the third to the second, and so on. The result is a streamlined, cable-free desk that looks as professional as it performs.

The modern workspace is no longer a single scree. Daisy chaining is the natural evolution. It reduces cable clutter, simplifies setup, and makes multi-monitor productivity accessible to anyone with a compatible laptop or desktop. Setting up a daisy chain is surprisingly straightforward, but it does require the right hardware. First, your computer must have a Display-Port 1.2 (or higher) output or a Type-C or USB port that supports Display-Port Alt Mode. Second, every display except the last one in the chain must have a Display-Port Out port — a feature that is still not universal. Finally, you will need Display-Port 1.2 or higher cables to connect each link.

Once connected, users must enable MST in each monitor's on-screen menu. This step is often overlooked, but it is essential. After that, Windows users can simply open Display Settings and choose "Extend these displays." The result is a seamless, extended desktop across two, three, or even four screens.

While the technology is a game-changer for Windows and Linux users, Mac owners should proceed with caution. Mac OS has notoriously limited support for Display-Port MST. In most cases, daisy chaining on a Mac will only mirror the screen rather than extend it. To achieve true multi-display expansion on Apple hardware, users typically need a Thunderbolt chain and an M1 Pro, Max, or Ultra chip — or a newer M-series Pro or Max processor.

There is one more consideration: bandwidth. Display-Port 1.2 can comfortably drive two 4K monitors at 60Hz, or up to four 1080p displays. Push beyond that, and the system will automatically lower resolution or refresh rate. For users with ultra-high-resolution displays or high refresh-rate gaming monitors, a more powerful DP 1.4 or Thunderbolt 4 connection is recommended.

Forget the tangled web of cables and the endless hunt for extra ports. Daisy chaining is here to simplify the way you work, play, and creation. For those ready to ditch the dongles and embrace the chain, the message is clear: one cable really can connect them all.
